Music was central to Dr. King’s movement. It carried courage, built community, and turned love into action. Saturday’s performance continues that tradition. Rooted in African American musical history – blues, folk, old-time, and early jazz – Jenkins’ music honors and illuminates the African American traditions of old-time American music, while speaking directly to the present. He is also known for his work with the Carolina Chocolate Drops, the groundbreaking, historic Black string band that helped reclaim and reshape America’s understanding of traditional roots music.
