Saratoga central CATHOLIc school Volunteer Projects —

As part of their honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., SPA Catholic students chose to raise funds and awareness for the Frederick Allen Elks Lodge #609 by holding a bake sale, selling bracelets with Dr. King quotes, and also donating the proceeds of their “dress-down” day! The students would like to encourage you to consider supporting the Lodge through the GoFundMe Campaign that is underway:

SAVE THE LODGE - Save Saratoga’s Soul

AND … students from the Saratoga Central Catholic National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society also took time to read their favorite books about Dr. King, Black History, and kindness. Special thanks to faculty advisor Erin Crowther for organizing this service project.

IDEAS for REMOTE & INDEPENDENT VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

  • Donate Blood --- Visit the AMERICAN REDCROSS website, find a local drive, and sign up for a time to donate. See link to REDCROSS here: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive

  • Donate Goods to SHELTERS of SARATOGA (SOS) --- Donations can be dropped off on Tuesdays between 9am-to-4pm at 14 Walworth Street, Saratoga Springs, 12866. Please consult the supply list on the SOS website to confirm which items they are currently accepting for donation: https://sheltersofsaratoga.org/donate-goods/

  • SHOVELING SNOW and/or Breaking Up Ice from a Neighbor's Sidewalk and/or Driveway --- Weather permitting, grab your snow shovel and take to the streets to see who in your neighborhood may need some help. If you are familiar with your neighbors, prioritize folks who are older, sick, or differently abled. If you are hoping to reach out to someone new, try downloading the app NEXT DOOR to your smart-phone and make a post asking who may need help shoveling their driveway or sidewalk.

  • CLEAN-UP OUR STREETS — Go for a walk around your neighborhood or an area in town of your choosing to pick up litter and trash. Be sure to bring a trash bag and another bag for recycling, too -- in case you come across a lot of paper or plastic bottles. Wear gloves for warmth and for safety. We recommend picking a safe location with sidewalks and good visibility ... please be very alert if working around busy streets and cars! Wear bright colors to make sure you can be seen by cars, pedestrians, and cyclists!

  • Sign-Up to Volunteer at CODE BLUE --- To join the Code Blue Volunteer Team and spend time in the shelter supporting our guests, you will need to complete a volunteer application, sexual harassment training, sign a sexual harassment policy, and submit these via email. Once you've submitted these materials, you will be able to register online for a shift. See volunteer application forms and details here: https://sheltersofsaratoga.salsalabs.org/sosvolunteerapplication/index.html

  • Create an EMERGENCY PREP PLAN & CONTACT LIST for YOUR Neighborhood -- Life has been throwing us all a lot of curveballs of late! Here’s a Google Drive Worksheet template you can use to develop a neighborhood Emergency Prep plan, as well as an accessible contact list (for those neighbors who choose to participate) . https://tinyurl.com/OurStreetEmergencyPrep

  • Volunteer to work the REGIONAL FOOD BANK on Monday, 1/17/22. he Regional Food Bank has many different sites that need volunteers on Monday, January 17, 2022 and many other days. Please visit their volunteer site to sign up: https://regionalfoodbank.net/volunteer/
